roamee was founded in san francisco 🌁
we're two engineers who work at big tech companies during the day, but the thing we actually care about — the thing we won't shut up about over boba — is travel.
between us we visit 5+ countries every year — not the resort kind, the lace-up-your-shoes-and-just-walk kind. no tour bus, no itinerary, just vibes and curiosity.
💡 how it started
we were in london on a random tuesday, walking from buckingham palace toward westminster and big ben. perfect afternoon — sun was actually out (rare, we know), streets buzzing, every block had something incredible.
but every two minutes one of us was pulling out our phone. "yo what is that building?" google. "who's that statue?" google. "what happened on this street?" google again. read half a wikipedia paragraph. squint. look up. forget what we just read. repeat.
we were standing in one of the most beautiful cities on earth and spending half the time doom-scrolling wikipedia 😭
then on westminster bridge — big ben right there, thames shimmering — we both said the same thing:
"why isn't there something that just knows where we are and tells us what we're looking at?"
no searching. no typing. no stopping. just stories in our earbuds as we walk 🎧 — like having the world's most interesting friend next to you, casually dropping knowledge bombs.
we looked for it. it didn't exist.
so we went home, mass-ordered boba for fuel, and built it ourselves. 🛠️
🎙️ what roamee does
roamee knows where you are. it knows what's around you. and it tells you the stuff that makes a place come alive — the weird history, the local secrets, the "no way, seriously?" details you'd walk right past without someone pointing them out.
it fills the quiet stretches between stops with stories so you're never just walking in silence wondering what you're missing.
we use it ourselves every trip. still finding things we didn't know about places we've been to three times.
